Summer is finally here, and with it a different kind of knitting. Airy tops, light shawls, skirts and accessories, projects that are just as enjoyable to wear as they are to knit. It's all about fibres that breathe, drape softly around the body, and thrive in the warmth and sunshine.
At Maruchi Fibres we carry a carefully chosen selection of summer yarns in linen, bamboo, cotton, silk and blends that bring out the best of each fibre. Here's a guide to what we have, and what you can make with them.
Gepard Hør Silke - Linen and Wild Silk for Airy Garments

70% French linen · 30% wild tussah silk · Sport/fingering weight · 175 m / 50 g · Needles 3–5 mm
Hør Silke is one of the most beautiful summer yarns we carry. The linen comes from France and the silk is a wild tussah silk, spun into fine threads and then twisted into a unique, airy yarn. The silk adds a natural softness and a subtle sheen that no synthetic fibre can replicate.
One thing to know when knitting with linen yarn: the stitches may look slightly uneven as you go, but after the first wash everything evens out into a beautiful, smooth fabric. Trust the process and wash the finished piece before wearing it for the first time.
Works well for: Airy blouses, oversized linen tops and lightweight shawls.
Pattern suggestions on Ravelry:
- Cilla Sun by Anne Ventzel – classic summer blouse
- Mellow Tee – relaxed t-shirt style in fingering weight
- Frill Me Tee

Gepard Cotton Waves - Cotton and Linen With a Living Texture
90% cotton · 10% linen · Bulky · 60 m / 50 g · Needles 5–8 mm
Cotton Waves is as close as you can get to a handspun yarn without actually spinning it yourself. It has a lively, slightly irregular texture, similar to bouclé but without any loops to snag, that creates a natural surface interest. The chunky weight means projects knit up quickly, and the cotton-linen blend gives garments great structure and a lovely summer feel without being heavy or warm to wear.
Perfect if you want a quick project finished in time for the summer holidays.
Works well for: Sleeveless tops and vests, bags, simple shawls.

Gepard Curly Cotton - Cotton, Silk and Merino with a unique boucle-like texture
82% cotton · 12% silk · 6% extra-fine merino · 150 m / 50 g · Needles 3.5–4.5 mm (single strand)
Curly Cotton is one of the most special yarns in our summer range. The unique combination of cotton, silk and a touch of extra-fine merino creates a soft, lightweight bouclé texture with depth and character, without being heavy or warm. The silk adds a subtle sheen, the merino brings softness and bounce, and the cotton keeps it cool and breathable.

What makes Curly Cotton so enjoyable to knit with is that the texture creates itself, giving the finished piece a distinctive, interesting look without any extra effort. Choose your needle size based on the feel you're after: 3.5 mm needles give a more structured fabric with a slightly Chanel-inspired quality, while 4.5 mm needles produce a relaxed, lightweight garment with an airy drape.
Curly Cotton also works beautifully with a companion strand, such as Filcolana Tilia or Filcolana Alva, for extra softness or a fuller fabric. A companion strand is also a lovely way to subtly shift or deepen the colour.
Works well for: Summer jackets and cardigans, lightweight sweaters, sleeveless tops and textured vests.
Pattern suggestions on Ravelry:
- Ostara Tank structured sleeveless top, great in bouclé
- Preston Top by Aurélie Tixier simple summer vest where the texture takes centre stage

Lang Yarns Lino - A Unique and Soft Linen Yarn
100% linen · Worsted weight · 110 m / 50 g · Needles 4.5–5 mm · Machine washable
Lino is not your typical linen yarn, it is spun as a fine tube (chainette construction), which makes it softer, airier and easier to work with than traditional linen. It comes pre-washed, tolerates machine washing, and softens further with time and use.
The worsted weight makes it a quick knit, and the pure natural linen gives garments that slightly rustic, organic feel that is so popular right now.
Works well for: Summer sweaters, cardigans, sleeveless tops, vests, skirts – or why not a sheer summer dress?

Lang Yarns Linello - Linen, Cotton and Viscose in Vibrant Colours
40% linen · 32% cotton · 28% viscose · Worsted weight · 280 m / 100 g · Needles 3.5–4 mm · Machine washable
Linello is one of our absolute favourite summer yarns. The blend of linen, cotton and viscose creates a soft, flowing feel, and the multi-tonal colourways with muted, natural transitions mean the project practically knits itself, you barely need to think about colour combinations.
At 280 metres per 100 g skein it goes a long way, and it's machine washable.
Works well for: Tops, cardigans, shawls, vests, it works for almost anything.

Casasol Bambú M - Bamboo With a Silky Feel
100% bamboo viscose · Sport weight · 300 m / 100 g · Needles 2.5–3.5 mm
Bamboo viscose is a yarn that impresses with its extraordinary softness and silky drape. It is a plant-based fibre that is naturally breathable and cool against the skin, perfect for the hottest days of summer.
It has a subtle sheen, glides smoothly on the needles, and creates garments with a beautiful weight that falls elegantly without stretching out of shape.
Works well for: Lightweight tops and blouses, fine shawls, accessories worn close to the skin.

- Ostara Tank – clean and elegant sleeveless top in sport weight
- Lucy Tee – structured top with all-over texture

Casasol Summer Loop - Recycled Polyamide for Swimwear and Beach Knits
100% recycled polyamide Tactel (from recycled swimwear and beachwear) · 300 m / 100 g · Needles 3–4 mm · Machine washable up to 30°C · Dry flat
Summer Loop is something truly unique in our range, and probably the most practical summer yarn we carry. It is an elastic yarn developed by Casasol specifically for knitting bikinis and swimwear that actually holds its shape in the water, dries quickly and doesn't sag when wet.
The yarn is made from 100% recycled Tactel polyamide sourced from old swimwear and flip-flops, a smart and sustainable way to give old fibres a new life. The construction is technical: an inner layer for strength and lightness, and an outer layer for colour and shape retention.
It comes in ten clear summer shades and goes a long way, 300 metres per skein means you can knit an entire bikini with one or two skeins.
Works well for: Bikinis, swimsuits, swim shorts, sports tops and any garment that needs to fit close to the body and handle water - or why not knit a matching sun hat or visor to go with your bikini?

Filcolana Merci - Cotton and Merino for Every Season
50% pima cotton · 50% superwash merino · Fingering weight · 200 m / 50 g · Needles 3–3.5 mm · Machine washable
Merci is not a purely summer yarn, it is more of an all-season yarn with the freshness of cotton and the softness and slight elasticity of wool. That makes it a wonderful choice when you want a garment you can wear on warm summer evenings and cooler autumn days alike.
The pima cotton keeps it cool and comfortable against the skin, and the superwash treatment makes it machine washable on a gentle cycle.
Works well for: Baby knits and children's clothing, lightweight tops and cardigans for the whole family, accessories.

- Ivy Top by PetiteKnit – sleeveless top with a funnel neck, effortless Scandinavian style
- Ivy Tee by PetiteKnit – short-sleeved t-shirt in fingering weight
